D.O. Named Best Student Daily by SPJ

The Daily Orange was named the national winner in the Best All-around Daily Student Newspaper category by the Society of Professional Journalists in its 2011 Mark of Excellence Awards.

The Daily Orange’s submissions were among more than 4,000 entries submitted from student journalists.

The paper was also chosen as a Region 1 Northeast finalist in March and placed first in the best all-around daily newspaper, editorial cartooning and sports column writing categories and third in the editorial writing category.

SPJ judged three issues of The D.O. from March 1, Oct. 5 and Dec. 1. The papers submitted included coverage of the Occupy Syracuse movement, campus crime, the men’s basketball season, and articles and editorial content about the Bernie Fine allegations.
